Anna LafrentzMillerntor Gallery goes Art Basel Miami – Day 1
Alarm at 3.50 am. The only reason to wake up this early is to catch a flight. Running to the taxi is as obligatory as smoking the last cigarette before the flight and being surprised that the queue at the security check has never been that long before.
„The beloved ones travel safe“ and so do we. A stop in London, a stop in Charlotte and as always: FC Sankt Pauli is with us!
After 20 hours we finally arrived in Miami, where the rest of the crew waited for us already, preparing the wood for next day’s building session.
The crew is: The artist duo LOW BROS, the Flamingo gang RAMBA ZAMBA, Viva con Agua activist MICHAEL FRITZ, street artist BOBBIE SERRANO and RAIMAR, NOAH, JÖRN & myself representing part of the Millerntor Gallery collective. The team will be completed by Berlin-based artist SEBASTIAN BIENIEK as well as AGNES, CLAUDIA and EVA.

With our claim “WATER IS LIKE ART – IT’S NOT FOR EVERYONE“ we set the value of art in proportion to the value of water in order to confront one of the biggest issues of our century – access to clean water for everyone.

The Millerntor Gallery is a social business by and for Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli. Our mantra is “art creates water“ – we use art as a universal language to inspire people and involve them in collective creative engagement. Revenues from art sales and donations are being transformed into clean water. The Millerntor Gallery came to life in 2011 as an art festival inside the stadium of the legendary football club FC Sankt Pauli. Growing rapidly it has already become a global cultural movement that blends individual creative energies into one collective force to change the world for the better. More than 1000 artists have contributed their talents, crafts and works for countless Millerntor Gallery art projects in many different countries.
